Description
Flaxseed hulls, also known as flaxseed shells or flaxseed husks, are the protective outer covering of flaxseeds (Linum usitatissimum). Flaxseeds are small, shiny seeds that come from the flax plant, which is native to the region encompassing modern-day Iran and India. Flaxseed hulls are typically brown or golden in color and have a hard and fibrous texture.
Flaxseed hulls are often removed before consuming flaxseeds, as they can be tough and indigestible. Once the hulls are removed, the inner kernel or “flaxseed” is revealed, which is small, oval-shaped, and has a smooth and shiny surface.
